As Assistant Director of Music and Liturgy for the Sisters of the Holy Cross, Inc., Jamie prepares and rehearses music with the choir for Sunday and holy day liturgies, collaborates with a team to provide special worship services, and serves on a pastoral care team. Her love for choral music was nurtured in her years at UNC Charlotte.

“I loved being a part of the Chamber Choir,” she recalls. “Touring and rehearsing with that group was a real joy and taught me how to be part of a team. It also taught me how performing together creates strong interpersonal bonds.”

Jamie says that UNC Charlotte was where she “grew up,” learning how to take on responsibility and accomplish great things. “I also met some amazing friends and faculty members that trusted me, took me in, and made me feel like I made a difference.  There’s nothing like that boost of self esteem!”

In her senior year, she was cast in a leading role in an opera and traveled to Europe. “These adventures were real gifts from the UNC Charlotte Music Department. Those memories stay with me to this day.”

Before moving to Indiana for graduate school at Notre Dame, Jamie taught middle school music for five years, sang with local church choirs, and performed locally in Connecticut with theatre and opera companies. She also travels to Remanso, Brazil, every few years to teach music to an impoverished community.

Jamie is impressed by the growth in the Music Department and encourages prospective students to check it out: “Without a doubt, be a part of this program. More than ever, you will receive a top-rate education while forming relationships that make Charlotte feel like home. You will be challenged to become a better person and inspired to become a leader in your community.”
