How did you first get interested in architecture?
Growing up I always had a creative interest, whether it was sketching, watercoloring, or assembling Harry Potter Legos with my sister. When I got to high school, I started taking drafting and getting involved in clubs that got me interested in architecture. In 2018, I attended UNC Charlotte’s Summer Architecture Camp, which helped me decide that architecture and Charlotte was the place for me!

What kind of career do you hope to have?
Through architecture, I hope to use my design skills to support the needs of growing communities. I like how architecture still allows me to be creative, but channels it toward a service to provide for others. During my career, I hope to work on projects that are sustainable, people-centered, and support meaningful change.

What is your favorite thing about the David R. Ravin School of Architecture?
My favorite experience with the architecture department was the study abroad trip to Rome during my fourth-year spring semester. I really enjoyed wandering through the city, studying Roman architecture, and eating lots and lots of gelato. The highlight of the trip was riding up to the top of the Carrara marble quarries during our trip to Tuscany.

Do you participate in any community activities or work in the Charlotte arts/design community?
I’m currently in my last year of the IPAL Program. IPAL has given me the opportunity to intern at an architecture firm part time during the school year and full time over the summer. Through my internship I’ve been able to collaborate on design projects, go on site visits, and build client relationships. During my gap year in between undergrad and grad school, I was able to pass 5 out of the 6 exams needed for licensure, and I’m excited to pass my last one soon!

When you are not in class, studying, or working, what do you like to do for fun?
Outside of class I enjoy exploring Charlotte with friends, playing volleyball over the summer, or a cozy night at home working on a craft and watching a movie.
