How did you first get interested in art?
I’ve been drawn to art for as long as I can remember. When I was 12, I discovered a love for digital creativity by designing e-book covers for self-publishing authors on Wattpad — which still makes me laugh when I think about it now. I did that for years, but everything clicked in my junior year of high school when I joined the yearbook staff. Designing pages, collaborating with my team, and seeing the final product come together made me realize how much I loved visual communication. By senior year, I became Editor-in-Chief of the yearbook, and that experience solidified my decision to pursue a degree in Graphic Design.
What kind of career do you hope to have?
I’m most passionate about brand identity. I love the idea of helping shape how a brand looks, feels, and communicates its story. After graduating, I hope to work in a design agency or a marketing team where I can collaborate with others, solve creative problems, and build cohesive visual identities for clients. Whether it’s designing logos, creating brand systems, or developing campaigns, I want to be part of the process that helps businesses and organizations express who they are. Ultimately, my goal is to continue growing as a designer and eventually work in a role where I can lead or mentor other creatives.
What is your favorite thing about the Department of Art & Art History?
My favorite thing is the strong sense of community within our college and department. I love how often student work is showcased, whether in exhibitions or even in the Macy hallway displays. There are also so many on-campus job opportunities where students can build real-world experience. It truly feels like UNC Charlotte values our voices and talents. Honestly, even being part of this student spotlight reflects how committed the college is to uplifting and celebrating its students.
Do you participate in any community activities or work in the Charlotte arts/design community?
Yes! I’m currently a Staff Designer for the university’s student newspaper, The Niner Times, and a Graphic Design Intern with Dining Services (also known as the Niner Diners team).
Over the summer of this year, I also completed a graphic design internship with UNC Charlotte’s Division of Research.
In addition, I’m the co-president of Niner Designers, a student-led organization dedicated to supporting and connecting creatives and graphic design majors at UNC Charlotte.
How has your scholarship helped you?
I earned the Co+A Irma Irene Mull Scholarship for the Fall 2025 semester, which has been a huge support as I continue my studies in the Graphic Design program.
When you are not in class, studying, or working, what do you like to do for fun?
When I’m not in class, studying, or working, I love doing arts and crafts with my friends, especially painting or coloring together while we catch up. I’m a big homebody, so some of my favorite moments are when I’m at home, cozy on the couch, watching TV and relaxing, spending time with my boyfriend and our two calico cats. I also enjoy reading whenever I have the time, and I’m a big live-music person, so I try to see my favorite artists in concert whenever I can.
