How did you first get interested in architecture?
The desire to make came naturally to me, this usually manifested itself in the form of art and related hobbies. As I entered high school, the expectation of fitting into some kind of career box became prevalent. While I knew I didn’t want to pursue art as a way to earn a living wage, the practice of architecture fell into my lap through a drafting class led by an influential female architect who intimidated most and inspired few. I’m happy to be one of the few.

What kind of career do you hope to have?
I aspire to take on the role of a project architect, one that works in between the conception of good design and efficient constructability. Beyond that, I hope to continue to develop who I am as a creative individual and not just a person with a career.

What is your favorite thing about the David R. Ravin School of Architecture?
I’m very thankful for the people I have met through the SoA, select professors and students have made this program worthwhile. The architectural electives offered at the school have been the most engaging for me as a student. I thoroughly enjoy architecture-adjacent topics of study. As future architects and innovators, it’s our job to lead these larger conversations about design and the built environment.

Do you participate in any community activities or work in the Charlotte arts community?
I work as an intern at Progressive Companies through the iPAL program. This program allows me to gain experience hours while earning my degree. Traditionally, it takes around 13 years to become a licensed architect but iPAL students average about 7 years. This internship has opened so many doors for me such as research opportunities, mentorships with licensed professionals and events/conferences around the Charlotte area.

When you are not in class, studying, or working, what do you like to do for fun?
I ride competitively with the Charlotte Equestrian Team and love to spend my time at the barn training for our next show day. Horses have always been an escape from the stress of everyday life and also helped develop my work ethic from a young age.
