How did you first get interested in theatre?
I grew up participating in the yearly musical at my elementary school, and quickly fell in love with memorizing lines and singing for audiences, as well as with my friends. After doing my first and only community theatre show at the Carolina Theater in Greensboro, NC, my parents signed me up for modeling, acting, and singing lessons, which I did for a year. At the end of those lessons, I got signed to an agency in NYC and began auditioning for movies and TV shows. Once I got to high school, I was certain of my place in the theatre/acting world.
What kind of career do you hope to have?
I hope to have a career that allows me to act, write, and direct professionally, eventually teaching in my later years. All three artistic mediums have allowed me to grow, and I would love to work as a professional actor for some time, hopefully writing and directing at some points.
What is your favorite thing about the Department of Theatre?
My favorite thing about the theatre department is how encouraging, supportive, and creatively nurturing the environment is, which makes me excited to do more than act in productions here. I was very nervous about having to focus on one creative medium in my theatre education upon arriving. However, I was pleased to find out that all CoA+A students are greatly encouraged to do as much as possible to step out of their comfort zone. This not only allows me to dive deeper into writing, acting, and directing, but it also gives me greater skill-building and sets me up for success in my professional life.
How has your scholarship helped you?
I got the Chancellor’s and Alumni Books Scholarships. These have helped me pay my tuition and set myself up for less debt, granting me a calmer piece of mind about my finances.
When you are not in class, studying, or working, what do you like to do for fun?
I like to lift weights, run, watch new films and tv series, and drive around Charlotte at night listening to music. I also love to write plays!
