Cal Peeples

Degree: B.A. in Architecture and a Minor in Architectural History
Graduation Year: 2027
Hometown: Fayetteville N.C.

How did you first get interested in architecture?
I originally took architecture classes at the community college in my home town, that eventually grew to really loving and enjoying architecture a lot. I graduated with my associates and set my sights for greater things so I applied to the architecture program here at Charlotte and I’ve enjoyed every second of what I do here.

What kind of career do you hope to have?
I hope to have my own firm one day that doesn’t just do architecture but really explores design in all its forms, physical, digital, ect. I want to be able to reach a wider community and teach design not just to the people who can afford it but the people who can’t.

What is your favorite thing about the College of Arts + Architecture?
Beyond the life long friendships I’ve made here, one of them has to be the Storrs fabrication lab. It lets me explore working with my hands to an extent I could’ve never imagined, and it has let me gain a set of skills I never would’ve acquired anywhere else.

Do you participate in any community activities or work in the Charlotte arts community?
Yes, I am actually lucky enough to be an employee in the Storrs fab lab, and on top of that, I am a board member of Freedom By Design which lets me teach others about what it means to design for the community. Freedom By Design just had our first model making Monday where I taught people how to make molds and cast those molds in plaster.

When you are not in class, studying, or working, what do you like to do for fun?
I enjoy hiking, it really lets me free my mind from the immense work of an architecture studio, I play guitar and I enjoy Intramural Volleyball with my friends.
