How did you first get interested in dance?
Growing up, dance in a way was a right of passage in my family. With my Aunt Heather Wrubel owning Bowman Dance Company and School, and my older sister dancing, I was surrounded by the art form from a young age. My dad also had a lifelong connection to dance, which made it feel like a family tradition. I spent my childhood dancing at a small ballet studio, and I had the incredible opportunity to attend summer intensives like Charlotte Ballet, Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, and UNCSA. Each experience not only honed my skills but also deepened my love for dance and the vibrant community that comes with it!
What kind of career do you hope to have?
I plan to further my education in exercise science by pursuing a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree. My goal is to specialize in physical therapy for dancers, combining my passion for dance with my commitment to helping others maintain their physical health and performance. This journey not only allows me to support the dance community but also to contribute to the well-being of dancers as they pursue their artistic endeavors.
What is your favorite thing about the Department of Dance?
One of the best things about UNC Charlotte, especially in the department of dance, is definitely the professors and dancers. The professors are not only knowledgeable and experienced in their fields, but they also genuinely care about their students’ success. They provide valuable feedback and mentorship, which really helps us grow. Plus, the dancers in the program are so supportive.
Do you participate in any community activities or work in the Charlotte arts community?
I have now completed my Professional Ballet Training Certificate with Charlotte Ballet! This program, in partnership with UNC Charlotte, has been an amazing experience, pushing me to new heights in advanced ballet techniques.
When you are not in class, studying, or working, what do you like to do for fun?
If I’m not dancing or studying, I usually hang out with friends and/or family.
