How did you first get interested in art?
After the pandemic art took an important place in my life, it helped process a lot like moving across the world at 16, the isolation that came with it. Joining the college of art at UNC Charlotte was the best choice I’ve ever made, the community is incredible. It allowed me to grow so much as an artist, and I can not wait for this coming year and what’s next.
What kind of career do you hope to have?
Charlotte is growing very fast and so is the art community. I would love to be a gallery owner, showcase local artists ( painters, designers, DJ…). The dream is to be a full time artist and a gallery/ art hub owner.
What is your favorite thing about the Department of Art & Art History?
Like I mentioned above, I believe that the community in Charlotte is my favorite thing, especially at UNC Charlotte. It is one of the most healthy and hard working. We have amazing professors who push us while being human and understanding of students on a deep level. The students are very connected to each other.
Do you participate in any community activities or work in the Charlotte arts community?
Yes, I currently work as a studio assistant for Kenny Nguyen an alumni of UNC Charlotte college of Arts. I’m also very active attending GoodYear Arts events, show openings, and an active member of ClubTut, an art club led by the local artist RaThaGod.
What have you gained from the Arts + Architecture Honors Program?
I’ve gained so much from the program, skills, mentors, and friends. I think the most important one would be confidence. In the Arts + Architecture Honors Program I learned that my vision is important, and that with skills you can do anything.
When you are not in class, studying, or working, what do you like to do for fun?
I like to create, hang with the people that I love, and discover the beauty that surrounds us.
