How did you first get interested in music?
I first got introduced to music by my older brother. When he was in high school, he played trumpet and showed me how much he enjoyed music. Ever since he introduced me to trumpet, I was hooked, and I started learning more about jazz, classical, and film music that inspired me to pursue my interest in high school into college.
What kind of career do you hope to have?
I hope to have a career as a military musician. I have family members who are currently active and retired from the military. I have gotten the opportunity to speak with and see many performances by these musicians and the pure joy they have on stage while executing a high level of musicianship has inspired me to seek this career path.
What is your favorite thing about the Department of Music?
My favorite thing about the department of music at UNC Charlotte is the community and the faculty. My very first experiences at UNC Charlotte, I felt the strong community built by the students. The positive atmosphere is great for students looking to develop their musical intuition while collaborating with others. This extends to alumni as well. There are many alumni that I speak to on a regular basis that are always willing to answer any questions and guide me in my future endeavors. The music faculty at Charlotte are constantly perfecting their craft and breaking down barriers in their respected field. This innovative energy helps motivate me in pursuing excellence and accomplishing my goals. This is what has impacted me the most while being at Charlotte.
When you are not in class, studying, or working, what do you like to do for fun?
Outside of school, I enjoy martial arts, watching movies, and finding new restaurants to take my friends and family. I am always looking to spend time with friends, family, and my dogs!
