Joel Kerner

Summer 2019 Studio Visiting Critic

Joel Kerner is a registered architect and Assistant Professor (NTT) at Syracuse University School of Architecture. He is currently serving as the 2019 Summer Studio Visiting Critic at the University of North Carolina - Charlotte. He holds a Master of Architecture from the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc), where he studied under Pritzker Prize Laureate Thom Mayne. His work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, A+D Museum in Los Angeles, and Viru Centre in Tallinn, Estonia. He has served as a critic and lecturer at several institutions, including SAIC, IIT, USC, UNCC, RPI, UIUC, WUSTL, and Woodbury University. He has recently collaborated with the Harvard University Graduate School of Design, Hardbakka Ruins Project in Norway, and One-Night Stand for Art & Architecture. His projects and essays have appeared in PLAT Journal, Revista Engawa, Lunch Journal, POSIT and See/Saw, among others.
