How did you first get interested in theatre?
I have been interested in theatre since childhood, and I have always had a passion for performance. As I grew up, I began to develop a passion for creating theatre as a whole and putting on beautiful pieces of theatre.
What kind of career do you hope to have?
I hope to work in production, working both as a director and as a dramaturg. My main goal is to help improve the inclusivity, diversity, and, accessibility of the theatre industry as a whole. I also want to put on performances that allow audiences to feel, start conversations, and change.
What is your favorite thing about the Theatre Department?
The people! The students in this department have been so kind and fun to be around, and we all do feel like good friends. We always support each other and lift one another up. The staff and faculty are also incredible, being so supportive of the students and doing everything they can to make every student feel welcomed, safe, and supported, while providing them with all the help they can provide for student success.
Do you participate in any community activities or work in the Charlotte arts community?
I participate in almost every production UNC Charlotte has put on in some way since coming here. I have worked as a performer, director, dramaturg, tech crew, and more. I also am a part of our theatre advisory club, SAC.
Can you talk about the benefits of having a scholarship?
Having a scholarship from the arts department has been one of the greatest benefits I have had while being a student here. It has helped me by providing essential financial aid that has allowed me to put out my best work in the department without the burden of loans and financial strain.
When you are not in class, studying, or working, what do you like to do for fun?
I enjoy hanging out with my friends, reading new plays, and spending time with my guinea pigs!
