How did you become interested in music?
During my sophomore year of high school, I joined the school’s beginner choir, and I absolutely fell in love with choral singing. This was also the first time I had been exposed to music theory, and that glimpse into theory opened my eyes to a whole world of music that I had never known existed. Throughout this time, my older sister was my biggest musical mentor, and she continually encouraged my curiosity and supported me as I taught myself guitar, ukulele, and mandolin. Once I started college, I joined the University Chorale, and I enjoyed the opportunity so much that I decided to major in music!

What kind of career do you hope to have?
I’m currently deciding between a career in human rights law or as a choral music educator. While these careers may sound different from each other, I feel confident that my skillset as a music student will help me follow my passions regardless of which career I choose.

What is your favorite thing about UNC Charlotte, the College of Arts + Architecture, or the Department of Music?
My favorite thing about UNC Charlotte, CoA+A, and the Department of Music is how supported I feel as both a student and person! Because UNC Charlotte is such a large university, there are so many opportunities available to students to gain experience in our fields, but I also love that CoA+A and the Department of Music have very close-knit communities. Because of these communities, I always feel like I have a team of supporters close to me who cheer me on and support me in all that I pursue.

Do you participate in any community activities or work in the Charlotte arts community?
On campus, I sing in the Charlotteans Women’s Choir and the University Chorale. I also work as a preceptor for a general education course about music in society, which gives me the opportunity to connect with students of all majors and share my passion for music with others.

When you are not in class, studying, or working, what do you like to do for fun?
I enjoy picnicking, doing yoga, and meeting new people!
