The School of Architecture presents a public lecture by Maryam Eskandari, followed by a Q&A.

Maryam Eskandari is the founder of MIIM Designs – a multidisciplinary studio in the vanguard of creating sacred spaces that address contemporary needs through sustainable materials – and focuses on creating architecture that isn't merely beautiful or functional but that also gives communities an opportunity for inclusive transformation and cultural dialogue. Her work has been recognized with notable awards, including a two-time recipient for the National Endowment for the Arts, Doris Duke Award in Architecture, Harvard Alumni Association Award in Architecture and Design, and Women Entrepreneur Award presented at the White House under President Barack Obama. Eskandari has taught at Harvard University, Boston Architectural College, and California State Polytechnic University Pomona. She served as a Founding Board Member for Open Architecture Collaborative, Harvard’s FDR Foundation, and is on the Advisory Board for CleanAcwa - Ghana, and the 1947 Partition Archives - India.

The title of her lecture is  “The Path Forward: Designing Beyond an Autonomous Architecture.”

The profession of architecture is often celebrated at face value. The endless feed of publications floods us with images of homogeneity and exclusivity in architecture. In “The Path Forward: Designing Beyond an Autonomous Architecture,” Eskandari will discuss how the practice of architecture is increasingly interdisciplinary and impactful through participatory design, owning centrality on design and making architectural spaces increasingly inclusive.
